Structural health monitoring with fiber optic sensors

摘要: Optical fiber sensors have been successfully implemented in aeronautics, mechanical systems, and medical applications. Civil structures pose further challenges in monitoring mainly due to their large dimensions, diversity and heterogeneity of materials involved, and hostile construction environment. This article provides a summary of basic principles pertaining to practical health monitoring of civil engineering structures with optical fiber sensors. The issues discussed include basic sensor principles, strain transfer mechanism, sensor packaging, sensor placement in construction environment, and reliability and survivability of the sensors.

Distributed fiber optic monitoring of a CFA pile with a central reinforcement bar bundle

摘要: In this paper, we present an application of distributed fiber optic sensor (DFOS) technology to measure the strain of a continuous flight auger (CFA) test pile with a central reinforcement bar bundle, during a static load test carried out in London. Being distributed in nature, DFOS gives much more information about the pile performance as compared to traditional point sensors, such as identifying cross-sectional irregularities or other anomalies. The strain profiles recorded along the depth of the piles from the DFOS were used to calculate pile deformation (contraction), shaft friction, and tip resistance under various loads. Based on this pile load test, a finite element (FE) analysis was performed using a one-dimensional nonlinear load-transfer model. Calibrated by the shaft friction and tip resistance derived from the monitored data, the FE model was able to simulate the pile and soil performance during the load testing with good accuracy. The effect of the reinforcement cage and central reinforcement bar bundle were investigated, and it was found that the addition of a reinforcement cage would reduce the pile settlement by up to 20%.

Digitalization optical open loop test system for fiber optic gyroscope

摘要: In order to receive and process the open loop signal from fiber optic gyroscopes speedily, stably and expediently, and to realize the amity interface between human and machine, a digital system that can convert GPIB (general purpose interface bus ) parallel bus into Universal Serial Bus is developed. All the interface functions of GPIB and the hardware system are realized through FPGA. With a digital sampling and processing system designed with VC++ in Windows platform, the real-time controlling procedure, high-speed receiving and sending data can be carried out, and the results can be displayed too. So the design of the system is flexible, the reliability and the stability are improved, error rate is no more than 10, the highest bit rate is 8 MB/s and the open loop detection system for optic fiber gyros achieves standardization and complete digitalization simultaneously.

The effect of orbital radiation therapy on thyroid-associated orbitopathy complicated with dysthyroid optic

摘要:

Thyroid-associated orbitopathy (TAO) is an inflammatory autoimmune disorder. The most serious complication of TAO is dysthyroid optic neuropathy (DON), which can lead to permanent vision loss because of volume expansion in the orbital apex. Orbital radiation therapy (ORT) is an anti-inflammatory treatment used in the treatment of active TAO. Clinical studies support radiotherapy as having a modest effect on DON, and early radiotherapy may protect against disease progression to DON. Current studies suggest that radiotherapy is generally safe. However, risks still exist in some cases. The possible effects of radiotherapy on TAO, especially complicated with DON, are reviewed. The effects of radiotherapy on DON are not completely known, and evidence from standardized, prospective, and multicenter clinical trials is still lacking.

基于光纤激光传感器的重载铁路列车在途安全状态监测技术

摘要:

针对重载铁路运行安全监测的迫切需求,提出了一种基于光纤激光传感器的重载铁路在途安全状态监测技术。在给出了光纤激光传感器基本原理与在途安全状态监测技术方案的基础上,指出了其中需要重点解决的关键技术,并给出了具体的实现方案。主要包括:高性能光纤激光振动传感器技术,高精度波长解调技术以及危险状态模式识别技术等。最后,给出了该监测技术的系统实现方案。

摘要: 综述了两类新型光纤的最新研究进展,主要包括掺铋、铝、铈等元素的二氧化硅光纤和微结构多芯光纤。作为掺杂特殊元素的光纤,铋铝共掺杂二氧化硅光纤的荧光光谱波长为1000到1400 nm,半高宽(FWHM)约为150 nm,可用于光纤放大器和激光系统。铈掺杂光纤的激发和发射中心波长分别约为340和430 nm。在纤芯中掺杂高浓度氧化铝的蓝宝石衍生光纤(SDF)经电弧放电加热、冷却处理后可形成莫来石。SDF可进一步开发为能承受1200 °C高温的法布里—珀罗干涉仪,用于高温传感。由于强消逝场,微结构多芯光纤被广泛应用于生物光纤传感、化学测量等领域。同轴芯光纤是一种具有两个同轴双波导纤芯的新型光纤。将光纤端制备成锥状,能产生紧致聚焦光场,可应用于光学捕获和微粒操纵。本文讨论了这些新型光纤的研究进展。

采用分布式光纤传感技术的土坝模型渗漏监测分析

摘要:

建立了采用分布式光纤传感技术的模拟堤坝渗漏监测系统,用来人工模拟土坝渗漏,并得到该种情况下测试光纤长度上的应变图,验证了采用分布式光纤传感技术监测土坝的可行性;运用ANSYS软件建立与试验模型相对应的有限元分析模型,通过选择合适单元,简化边界条件,对一定的工况进行加载分析,得出载荷与应变的关系,以及载荷与塌陷土层重量的关系。文中方法和结论有助于进一步定量研究土坝渗漏大小程度和光纤传感器的合适埋设深度。

基于自适应双光梳系统的高分辨率快速热传感器 Special Feature on Precision Measurement and Inst

摘要: 提出一种基于自适应双光梳光谱测量系统的相移光纤布拉格光栅(PFBG)高分辨率快速热传感技术。与传统双光梳系统相比,自适应双光梳系统以两个自由运行的光纤激光器为光源,消除了严格的锁相反馈环节,极大降低了系统复杂度。利用自适应技术对光梳梳齿的快速不稳定性进行较好补偿,通过对干涉图进行时域快速傅里叶变换,精确表征了PFBG的光学响应。单次采集可在几十毫秒内完成,光谱分辨率为0.1 pm,对应的热测量分辨率为0.01 ℃。测量的光谱带宽超过14 nm,说明动态测量范围较大。自适应双光梳系统采用宽松的自控制方案,在室外实际应用中显示出巨大潜力。

High resolution satellite imaging sensors for precision agriculture

The central concept of precision agriculture is to manage within-field soil and crop growth variability for more efficient use of farming inputs. Remote sensing has been an integral part of precision agriculture since the farming technology started developing in the mid to late 1980s. Various types of remote sensors carried on ground-based platforms, manned aircraft, satellites, and more recently, unmanned aircraft have been used for precision agriculture applications. Original satellite sensors, such as Landsat and SPOT, have commonly been used for agricultural applications over large geographic areas since the 1970s, but they have limited use for precision agriculture because of their relatively coarse spatial resolution and long revisit time. Recent developments in high resolution satellite sensors have significantly narrowed the gap in spatial resolution between satellite imagery and airborne imagery. Since the first high resolution satellite sensor IKONOS was launched in 1999, numerous commercial high resolution satellite sensors have become available. These imaging sensors not only provide images with high spatial resolution, but can also repeatedly view the same target area. The high revisit frequency and fast data turnaround time, combined with their relatively large aerial coverage, make high resolution satellite sensors attractive for many applications, including precision agriculture. This article will provide an overview of commercially available high resolution satellite sensors that have been used or have potential for precision agriculture. The applications of these sensors for precision agriculture are reviewed and application examples based on the studies conducted by the author and his collaborators are provided to illustrate how high resolution satellite imagery has been used for crop identification, crop yield variability mapping and pest management. Some challenges and future directions on the use of high resolution satellite sensors and other types of remote sensors for precision agriculture are discussed.

Modeling and analysis of controllable output property of cantilever-beam inertial sensors based on magnetic

摘要: Magnetic fluid is first introduced into the traditional cantilever-beam senor. Based on the property of the cantilever-beam and the novel controllable mag-viscosity of magnetic fluid, the output of cantilever-beam sensors is under control so that the controllable output of the sensors can be realized. The mathematical model of the sensors is established and analyzed. The dynamic control function and the following educational results, which include the two curves of the displacement ratio and phase function with the different damping ratio and frequency ratio, are obtained based on the model. The result shows that it is valid to realize the controllable output of the sensors by controlling the viscosity of the magnetic fluid, and finally the expanded measurement range can be realized.

Soft curvature sensors for measuring the rotational angles of mechanical fingers

摘要: The design, fabrication, and testing of soft sensors that measure elastomer curvature and mechanical finger bending are described in this study. The base of the soft sensors is polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), which is a translucent elastomer. The main body of the soft sensors consists of three layers of silicone rubber plate, and the sensing element is a microchannel filled with gallium-indium-tin (Ga-In-Sn) alloy, which is embedded in the elastomer. First, the working principle of soft sensors is investigated, and their structure is designed. Second, the relationship between curvature and resistance is determined. Third, several sensors with different specifications are built in accordance with the structural design. Experiments show that the sensors exhibit high accuracy when the curvature changes within a certain range. Lastly, the soft sensors are applied to the measurement of mechanical finger bending. Experiments show that soft curvature sensors can effectively reflect mechanical finger bending and can be used to measure the bending of mechanical fingers with high sensitivity within a certain working range.

MEMS-based thermoelectric infrared sensors: A review

In the past decade, micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS)-based thermoelectric infrared (IR) sensors have received considerable attention because of the advances in micromachining technology. This paper presents a review of MEMS-based thermoelectric IR sensors. The first part describes the physics of the device and discusses the figures of merit. The second part discusses the sensing materials, thermal isolation microstructures, absorber designs, and packaging methods for these sensors and provides examples. Moreover, the status of sensor implementation technology is examined from a historical perspective by presenting findings from the early years to the most recent findings.

Performance of fiber reinforced clayey sand composite

摘要: Soils and their related behavior have always been the subject of many studies. Recent researches show some interests in investigation of inclusion of randomly distributed fiber in soil. This study focuses on effect of fiber inclusion on the strength and other parameters of clayey sand composite material. First part of this study is related to effective parameters on strength of the clayey sand composite with using natural fiber and plastic fiber and different fiber contents and length. Triaxial consolidated undrained (CU) tests were carried out to investigate behavior of the composite under different condition. The fiber percentage varied from 0% (for unreinforced samples) to 4% and fiber length varied from 8 to 25 mm. The fiber length and fiber content found to play important rule on the strength of fiber reinforced composite.

Mechanical properties of steel, glass, and hybrid fiber reinforced reactive powder concrete

摘要: This study examines the properties of fiber-reinforced reactive powder concrete (FR-RPC). Steel fibers, glass fibers, and steel-glass hybrid fibers were used to prepare the FR-RPC. The non-fibrous reactive powder concrete (NF-RPC) was prepared as a reference mix. The proportion of fibers by volume for all FR-RPC mixes was 1.5%. Steel fibers of 13 mm length and 0.2 mm diameter were used to prepare the steel fiber-reinforced RPC (SFR-RPC). Glass fibers of 13 mm length and 1.3 mm diameter were used to prepare the glass fiber-reinforced RPC (GFR-RPC). The hybrid fiber-reinforced RPC (HFR-RPC) was prepared by mixing 0.9% steel fibers and 0.6% glass fibers. Compressive strength, axial load-axial deformation behavior, modulus of elasticity, indirect tensile strength, and shear strength of the RPC mixes were investigated. The results showed that SFR-RPC achieved higher compressive strength, indirect tensile strength and shear strength than NF-RPC, GFR-RPC, and HFR-RPC. Although the compressive strengths of GFR-RPC and HFR-RPC were slightly lower than the compressive strength of NF-RPC, the shear strengths of GFR-RPC and HFR-RPC were higher than that of NF-RPC.
